Rock Type: Tourmaline pegmatite
Location: Guyana, South America
Description: Crossed polarized light image of medium sized highly birefringent (bright, colour) tourmaline intergrown with grey/black quartz. The crystals are parallel and oriented in a diagonal trend likely due to some applied pressure to the rock after it formed. The pressure has also cracked the hard tourmaline crystals. This rock was studied for its gold potential.
